ARTIST STATEMENT

Stammis = Swedish word for a regular customer - NOUN a person who purchases products or services from a person or business frequently.

I worked in the post office of a grocery store ages 18-20 before quitting to study art. STAMMIS is a farewell project to the strangers I met every day and marks the leap I took to find my purpose. Although leaving the job was a dream in of itself, the goodbye was quite emotional. You see, the store had a group of many beautiful, interesting regulars that would breathe so much life and warmth into my repetitive and bleak shifts.

I absolutely love this series as the subjects are very dear to my heart and the absolute joy on their faces when I handed them the copies of their portraits. Many tears and hugs were shared and I realised that this type of "normal" people usually aren't even considered for portraits. I think they're all absolutely beautiful and I miss them daily. Every time I show the series I can't stop myself from telling their life stories and doing impressions of them.
