PROJECTS

Cyborgs Making Out is the artist duo between life partners artist Agnes Hjalmarsson and musician Andy Yeo, working across different mediums such as, video, photography, sound, and installation. Rooted in their shared experiences as third culture kids growing up in Sweden, their work navigates questions of ethnicity, identity, and cultural in-betweenness...

I use art as a way to explore my identity and process the separation between my cultures. My mother was adopted from Korea, which has created a unique distance between me, my extended family, and my roots. As I’ve started searching for my origins, I’ve realized that identity is shaped not only by what we know, but also by what we lack...

Made in Sweden acts like a visualisation of my identity as the daughter of a Korean adoptee, born and raised in sweden. By playfully using ironic exaggerations and stereotypes I aim to capture the dissonance between my heritage, physical appearance and environment...

I worked in the post office of a grocery store for two years before quitting to study art. STAMMIS is a farewell project to the strangers I met every day and marks the leap I took to find my purpose. Although leaving the job was a dream in of itself, the goodbye was quite emotional. You see, the store had a group of many beautiful, interesting regulars that would breathe so much life and warmth into my repetitive and bleak shifts...

Hands of Seoul / Souls of Han is a street photography project consisting of 95 images taken in Seoul over the course of two days. It’s a portrait of a previously war torn, post-colonial city where a dark history lingers despite the modern technology and beloved pop culture phenomenons. The series aims to capture “Han” and the contemplative nature of Korean society, adjusting and persisting through the rapid, major changes. This while also portraying the first impression by a foreigner trying to reconnect with her roots...

Through the creation of my solo exhibition Made in Sweden I found my pre-programmed views of cultural appropriation and identity deeply challenged. What truly determines a person’s ethnic currency? Is it your upbringing, your endured hardships or have we circled back to DNA percentage? Am I decolonizing myself or appropriating a foreign culture? Who decides and where does that leave people like me? I hope to find a visual representation of my culture that isn’t “half-anything” but rather an intricate blend of influences and experiences that transcend categorization...

TO MY MUSE is a love declaration to my first love, a man who completely changed my life the second I laid eyes on him. He not only showed me how to love, but more importantly how to live with care, peace and purpose...
